Italy, 1970's

A rare and striking signed Tommaso Barbi Cobra table lamp, produced in Italy circa 1970. Sculptural, glamorous and unmistakably bold, this iconic design captures the drama and sophistication of Italian 1970s decorative lighting.

The lamp is formed as a coiled cobra in glossy black glazed ceramic, rising elegantly from a circular gilt base. The body is richly textured with scale-like detailing, while the raised cobra head gives the piece a powerful sculptural presence. Fine brass accents trace the front of the form, adding warmth, definition and a luxurious contrast against the deep black glaze.

Signed to the base with the Tommaso Barbi mark, this lamp is a highly decorative and collectible example of Italian mid-century design.

Shown with a black drum shade, the lamp gives off a moody, atmospheric glow while retaining a sleek and elegant silhouette. Perfect for a console table, sideboard, library, dressing room, boutique interior or dramatic living space.
